Academy and Select
Hard Work Feels Good!
Smiths United Football Club is the competitive side of our club. The academy/select program is designed with your player's love of the game and specific development in mind.
Junior Academy (2018–2020): Intro to structured soccer. Players compete in 4v4 games with light travel to clubs like Harris County, Auburn, Opelika, and Montgomery.
Academy (2015–2017): Focus on skill development and teamwork. Includes a local travel schedule and two tournaments per season.
Select (2014–2008): Higher-level commitment with state league play (8 games: 4 home, 4 away), 2 tournaments per season, and local friendlies.
In accordance with US Soccer and our club's core philosophy at SUFC:
Long-term development of players is the top priority
Players need to be put in the best possible environment to succeed
There are no shortcuts -Success requires a long-term approach and commitment
Individual development and fun soccer experience is the priority
SUFC Teams play against other clubs regionally in tournaments and friendly matches. Games are played at home and away and are primarily played in Montgomery, Auburn, Opelika, and Smiths Station.
SUFC is open enrollment and players can join at any time throughout the year.

New Academy or Select players are required to purchase uniforms/kit as it is not included in registration fees. Required uniforms consist of the following:
white jersey
blue jersey
blue shorts
white socks
blue socks

FAQs
How often do teams practice?
Teams typically practice 2–3 times a week. Sessions last 1.5–2 hours between 6:00–8:00 PM Eastern.
Is there a payment plan?
Yes! Pay in full or use our plan: $150 at registration, then $50/month auto-drafted until the balance is paid.
How do tournaments work?
Academy and Select teams participate in at least 2 tournaments each season. Costs are divided per player. For events over 100 miles from our fields, a $250 coach per diem is also divided among participants. Additional tournaments may be added by team choice. Fundraising is encouraged and allowed.
How are uniforms ordered?
Uniforms are purchased through a third-party site and shipped directly to your home. Delivery typically takes 2–3 weeks.
What does the registration fee cover?
Training, league games, referee fees, field usage, and coach compensation. Tournament and uniform costs are separate.
